50% bigger, too high, far under parked and much too costly.

Parking problem 04/01/2009

Parking is already horrible in this area. traffic patterns are bad enough now, the last thing this area needs is 2 way traffic for 1 or 2 blocks. As Palo Alto residents, these continious projects in this neighborhood are just bad for the city.

Building size TOO BIG; Parking HORRIBLE AS IS; Traffic BAD AS IS. Concerned also about school crowding w/more housing for families.

Too big! 03/31/2009

The large size of this development does not appear in keeping with the character of the neighborhood, nor do our streets and parking appear able to sustain the increased traffic and parking.

No exceptions! 03/30/2009

Save our neighborhood! I have been repeatedly disappointed in the Planning Department allowing developers exceptions and variances, so they can build overly tall, overly populated buildings. Adding low income housing does not mean it is always best for the city. Having green practices in the new building does not always cut energy consumption- I have yet to see one of these new developments that are using less water and energy than the building they are replacing. Please slow the multiple housing growth in downtown Palo Alto, you have already taken all our parking in front of our homes and forced Addison to lose precious play space to portables.

The building has to be kept to the original agreement, the codes, and the original height. Also, concerning parking, Emerson Street and Addison Avenue, in all directions from their intersection, are already totally full of parked cars every week-day.

SOFA-2 too dense 03/27/2009

Homer is already too crowded with cars and Whole foods traffic. The original plans which were in place when we bought were for 50 units total. The neighborhood feeling of SOFA is turning into a dense urban environment. Addison is already over crowded. We work very hard and live in a small townhouse to be able to send our kids there when they are old enough. I don't want to be turned away.

The 800 High Street garage is poorly designed to begin with, with no designated space for pedestrians to walk out of the garage forcing them onto the ramp. To add 200 or more additional cars to this mess is absolutely ludicrous. Alma is already a main thoroughfare---keep the cars on Alma!
As an owner at 800 High, I know that project was similarly opposed as being too big for the neighborhood and in many ways I feel the opposition was right. To allow another building sharing the same block to be even bigger with inadequate parking just compounds the problems.

Permit Parker 03/26/2009

I am a current "Permit" parker in the 800 High Street garage. I feel that it is irresponsible of developers and the city to allow a new building that is too large a project for the current area. With the down economy there are many vacant buildings already. It will be painfully pointless to let one developer come in and inconveniently re-suffle existing facilities and their occupants and users versus repurposing other existing structures that could benefit from their occupancy. I have always sought to park near my place of work and it helped to keep my car in good condition. At one point I had to park on the street, to the inconvenience of residents, and my car need much more maintenance because of damage from the elements and other drivers carelessness. I do not wish to have my parking permit given away to someone else!
